Rotimi Akeredolu And The Battle For Survival

By Temitope Adedeji, Akure

The Ondo State governor, Olurotimi Akeredolu has been having a running battle with some members of the All Progressive Congress ( APC) in Ondo State over germane issues.

The battle line was drawn and fall out of the 2016 APC primaries election which produced AKETI as a Governorship Candidate but the governor has not find it deemed fit to recognize and taking care of the party members even uniting them to one indivisible entity.

Many of the party members are not happy with the governor’s style of ruling. The Governor is seeing to be favoring his immediate constituency, and family members alone in scheme of things.

However, so many allegations of neglect by party members have been levied against the governor which he (the governor) feels less concerned.

The party members also alleged that the governor never visited the party secretariat since his assumption of office as Governor of the state.

It is believed that Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu did not manage the APC post-primary election events of 2016 in a way that would unite members of the party and foster party cohesion for a stronger ruling political party in Ondo state.

It is no doubt that the romance of AKETI with Action Alliance (AA) party against formidable party members like Professor Ajayi Boroffice and others, may have aggravated the division in Ondo APC.

In a very strong term, Akeredolu’s second term’s fate as double standard political allegation has been leveled against him.

Unless we want to deceive ourselves, out of point that we would forget so soon that, Akeredolu signed the impeachment of the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole out of office early last year before all powers that be, intervened and restored sanity.

The same Aketi needs the help of the national Chairman now to get back the second term ticket which many say, it may not be rosy for him to achieve.

From all indications, the last battle the national chairman scaled through in the hands of some governors that he should be removed from office, it was said that the governor of Ondo state was fingered to be part of the sponsors for the removal of the chairman.

Many are the sins of the governor in the eyes of the cabals that determine the fate of who becomes the next governor of a state in Nigeria mostly from the ruling party APC.

This piece will surely be incomplete if, the division in the party structure in the state is not mentioned. Today over 80per cent of members of the state House Of Assembly are loyal to the deputy Governor of the state, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, which the governor has distanced himself from.

The Deputy Governor and the governor have been in logger-head for over a year living and operating like cat & dog in administering the state.

The reason behind this is not farfetched but shall be discussed in no distance time.

As the party Primaries draw nearer and the election proper hopefully October this year as being designed by the INEC, the warlords of APC in Ondo State and that of the national, are filling their cutlasses and knives to cut off anything “cuttable” and to do “plus & minus” to the Aspirants jostling for the party ticket in few months time.
