Rural, Township Roads Set For Rehabilitation In Ogun

By Kolawole Olayinka, Abeokuta

Ogun State government said it will continue to make life comfortable for its citizenry, just as it commences rehabilitation and construction of township and rural roads across the State.

The Deputy Governor, Engr. Salako-Oyedele, gave this hint while addressing executive members of Yewa Think Tank, who were on a courtesy visit to her office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

She disclosed that the State Governor and his counterpart in Lagos State had been discussing with President Muhammadu Buhari on how to cede the Lagos-Ota- Abeokuta roads to them for construction on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

“On rural roads, we are working on different technologies where we can do more roads. A road that has just a couple of vehicles taking cassava and other produce doesn’t need the same kind of finishing as Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. So we are experimenting on different kinds of finishing for the roads so that we would be able to spend the little amount available over a wide range”, she said.

She added that constructing more roads would also help to open up the hinterland and check rural-urban drift across the State, noting that to achieve this, the government was also discussing with factories in Agbara-Atan areas, to complement its efforts at boosting economic activities through its PPP initiative.

Earlier in his address, President, Yewa Think Tank,  Prof. John Aihonsu, explained that the forum, a non-partisan and non- religious group was made up of distinguished public servants, captains of industries, professionals and leaders in Yewa communities, whose membership cuts across Ketu, Ifonyin, Ifekowajo, Igbesa, Ado-Odo, Imeko-Afon and Oke-Ogun.

While commending the government for setting up a review committee on the issues surrounding Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (MAUSTECH), Aihonsu urged government to consider establishing a university, as well as continue to look into the condition of roads in Yewa axis.
