Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday cancelled his proposed walk for peace, citing what he called a significant rise in Omicron variant of COVID-19 cases as reason.
Sanwo-Olu said that the decision to suspend the peace walk after receiving support from different groups including students, rights activists and market men as well as women was basically not to endanger the life of any Lagosian in the search for peace.
The governor noted that reports from medical experts in the state indicated that the time was not right for a large gathering that could result to contravention of the coronavirus guidelines set by Federal Government to pull out Nigeria from countries battling with the pandemic.
He announced the suspension barely 12 days after informing Lagosians that the walk during this month would herald the healing of the land and restore harmony, extending invites to youths, members of the diplomatic corps, civil society groups, students, and the media as well as other stakeholders.
Notable among the individuals invited were: hip-hop star, Folarin Falana popularly called Falz, Debo Adebayo (Mr. Marcaroni), Dele Farotimi, Temitope Majekodunmi, Segun Awosanya (Segalinks), Adedotun (Just Detoun), Seun Kuti, Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu and Commander of Rapid Response Squad (RRS), CSP Yinka Egbeyemi and others.
