Fresh from Governor of the Year Award he received from Leadership newspaper on Thursday in Abuja, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu returned to Lagos on Friday morning and quickly signed into law the state VAT Bill.
The bill was passed on Wednesday by the state House of Assembly.
According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, the Governor signed the “bill for a law to impose and charge Value Added Tax on certain goods and services” at about 11. 45 am.
“By this act, the Bill has now become a Law.”
The controversy over the collection of VAT was sparked when a Rivers State High Court ordered that only the state was empowered by the constitution to collect VAT in the state as opposed to the Federal Inland Revenue Service.
