Leader of the All Progressives Congress,Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, yesterday, emerged as the Senatorial candidate of APC in Kwara Central Senatorial District.

Similarly Senator Mohammed Shaaba Lafiagi, a former governor in the state, secured the party’s ticket to represent the party in the Senatorial Elections for Kwara North.

Hon. Rafiu Ibrahim, a member of the House ofRepresentatives, secure the ticket to be the party’s flag bearer in Kwara South Senatorial District.



Accord Members Are Relegated in Oyo Assembly, Says Hon. Oyewole

A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly seeking re-election to represent Ona-Ara State Constituency in the forthcoming general elections on the platform of the Accord Party (AP), Hon. Theophillus Oyewole has disclosed that lawmakers on the platform of the party in the Assembly are being prevented from performing their statutory legislative functions due to the over centralization of power in the hands of Speaker of the House, Hon. Monsurat Sunmonu who is from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He made the disclosure in his office during an exclusive interview with WESTERN POST at the weekend on the activities 7th Assembly as they are winding off the plenary.

In his words: “Where have you seen in the history of any state House of Assembly that the Deputy Speaker will not be allowed to preside over the plenery in absence of the Speaker?”

“It is never done. Even in the National Assembly, when the Speaker is absent, his deputy automatically takes over in his absence,” he further explained.

Hon. Oyewole berated the House for being a rubber stamp of the Executive, stating that all the APC members in the 7th Assembly including the Speaker have been tied to the apron string of the governor.

He used the medium to educate the electorate to use their votes in the forthcoming election to seek for total change in governance of the state to prevent them from being enslaved for another four years in the hands government he described full of deceit.

Hon. Oyewole described the National Leader of Accord Party and the party’s governorship flagbearer, Senator Rashidi Ladoja as the only solution the people of Oyo State needed at this point in time when the polity in the state is being characterized by god-fatherism.

“Masses are suffering and the government seemed unconcerned about their welfare. Many workers in the state civil service are sacked wilfully in order for the present government to accommodate his own people. Things have definitely turned upside down,” he opined.

While speaking on his re-election plan, the state lawmaker who is the Chairman, House Committee on Human Rights assured people of his constituency of unprecedented development if voted for a second term in the state assembly.

He maintained that his decision to seek a second term was to enable him consolidate and complete numerous projects he initiated in his first term in office.

Some of the projects he initiated according to him include Hospital Complex at Idi-Ose, Blocks of Classrooms in some schools, boreholes he dug at his constituency and lots of other projects.

He expressed regret for the delay in completing some of the projects which he said was occasioned by the delay in his constituency allowance, adding that he has been funding some of the projects through his personal purse.

Hon. Oyewole further explained that his decision to run for the seat again was as a result of his nomination by members of his constituency due to his creditable performance.

He then called on people of his constituency to give him their unalloyed support towards his re-election and to support the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election for Oyo State to witness unequalled development in all facets.
