With the leadership crisis put behind it, the Senate swung into action on Tuesday, appointing three special committees and an ad-hoc committee.
The committees, which were announced at plenary by the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, were the powerful Senate Services, headed by Senator Ibrahim Gobir (APC, Sokoto East); Rules and Business, to be chaired by Senator Babajide Omoworare (APC, Osun Central); and Ethics and Privileges, with Senator Samuel Anyawu (PDP, Imo East) as chairman.
Senator Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi West) was announced by Senator Saraki as Chairman, Ad-hoc Committee on Information and Public Affairs, with Senators Eyinnaya Abaribe and Ben Murray-Bruce, among others, as members.
The President of the Senate, who said the appointments were in full conformity with the principles of geo-political spread, asked senators who were interested in serving in the Senate Standing Committees to pick forms from the Clerk of the Senate and indicate five committees they would like to serve.
