Expectations that former Rivers State governor, Mr. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, will be screened on Tuesday by the Senate may have been dashed. The upper legislative chamber resolved on Tuesday to take Amaechi’s screening as a possible minister on Wednesday.
Before screening Amaechi, the Senate will first receive the report of its committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions over the petition against the former governor’s appointment.
A petition from Rivers State had tended to block Amaechi’s emergence following his alleged indictment by a probe panel set up by Governor Nyesome Wike of the state.
Meanwhile, the Senate has pruned the number of ministerial nominees it would screen daily to three in order to engage in a more thorough screening.
On Tuesday, three nominees were screened namely Hajiya Khadijah Bukar Abba Ibrahim, Adebayo Shittu and Claudius Daramola.
