Senator Sheriff Moves to Stop Fresh PDP Convention

Factional Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has moved to stop the fresh national convention of the party slated for August 17.

He approached an Abuja High Court seeking to stop the convention.

August 17 was picked for the convention after a reconciliation meeting in the party to resolve its crisis. Sheriff did not attend the meeting but the Chairman of PDP Board of Trustees, Jibril Walid, had said the party’s factional chairman was with them in spirit and that the crisis had been resolved.

Walid had said then that in the next few days, nobody would hear of the crisis again.

Arising from the meeting, the Chairman of the party’s National caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, had set up the zoning and convention committees.

The Zoning committee had ceded the party chairmanship to the South and presidential candidate to the North.

The committee to organise the convention has been working since then. The move by Sheriff may scuttle the planned convention..
