SERAP To Sue FG Over Suspension Of Twitter Operations In Nigeria


    The Socio-Economic Rights And Accountability Project (SERAP) has announced plans to sue the federal government over the suspension of Twitter operations in the country.SERAP in a tweet on Friday said, “We’re suing Nigerian authorities over their ILLEGAL indefinite suspension of Twitter in Nigeria.

    “Nigerians have a right to freedom of expression and access to information including online, and we plan to fight to keep it that way. we’ll see you in court.”

    The Federal Government said it has suspended, indefinitely, the operations of the microblogging and social networking service, Twitter, in Nigeria.

    The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, announced the suspension in a statement issued by his office in Abuja.

    The statement, signed by Ministry spokesperson, Segun Adeyemi, cited the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.
