One of the gubernatorial aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde on Tuesday rejected the results of the governorship primary which was won by the former Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin.
Addressing newsmen in Ibadan, Makinde who described the exercise as
a sham, said it negated the PDP Electoral Guideline and the Electoral Act as amended.
He added that the conduct of the PDP gubernatorial primary
contravened an Abuja High Court judgment delivered on December 5.
According to him, he did not participate in the exercise because
there is court judgement which ruled that only elected ward
delegates were eligible to participate in the party’s primary.
While noting that the party’s guidelines and the Electoral Act recognised ad-hoc delegates and not statutory
delegates which were used by the party,
Makinde explained that an Abuja High Court had restrained the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting any
result from the PDP unless the election was conducted by the ad-hoc
committee and not the statutory committee.
He added that the court further ordered that any election conducted
by the statutory delegates was null, void and it’s of no effect.
