Sheriff Rejects PDP BoT’s Decisions

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not about to end as the factional Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has rejected the recent decision of the PDP Board of Trustees.
The party’s BoT headed by Ambassador Jubrin Walid had directed the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee to disband the convention planning committee headed by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and also asked the committee to shift the venue of the party’s Convention from Port Harcourt to Abuja.
The move is to pander to Sheriff, who had complained about the undue influence of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and given the relocation of the convention to Abuja as one of his conditions for peace.
Attempts to hold the convention in Rivers State has failed twice following court orders obtained by Sheriff.‎
But the former Borno State governor did not welcome the decisions particularly the one asking Makarfi Committee to carry on in office.
Sheriff’s deputy, Hon. Cairo Ojuogbo, said the BoT had created more problems than they planned to solve with their decisions
The new BoT directive, which will whittle down Wike’s influence in the convention plans, was contained in a communique issued by the BoT after a marathon meeting in Abuja on Monday.‎
The communique was signed by BoT Chairman, Walid Jubrin.
It ordered the Makarfi caretaker committee to set up of a new planning committee to be approved by the National Executive Committee of the party.
The BoT’s communique reads in part: “The next convention should be held in Abuja.
“To ensure a credible, transparent, free and fair convention, a new Convention Planning Committee should be constituted by the National Caretaker Committee and approved by NEC.”
The communique further stated that the BoT should facilitate fund raising for the running of the party and directed the reconciliation committee headed by a former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana, to continue with its reconciliation efforts.
The meeting ended with the BoT passing a vote of confidence on the Makarfi-led caretaker committee.
It charged the committee to convene a meeting of the NEC, with the view to approving proposals designed to steer the party away from crisis.
