Graceland Estate Community Development Association (CDA) in Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, has accused the contractor handling a road project in their community of doing shoddy job.
The community, therefore, appealed to the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola to prevail on the contractor to give them good road.
Construction work on the road commenced in 2019. It links the estate with the LASU- Igando expressway and was listed as a Federal Government project through the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals [OSSAPSDGs], headed by the former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Hon. Mrs. Joke Orelope Adefulire.
The project was to be supervised by the Federal Ministry of Work and Housing.
A member of the CDA, identified as Mr. Akintoye Francis, who spoke with journalists, from the point of an engineer, noted that members of the communities around the project heaved a sigh of relief at the commencement of the work.
He however regretted that the construction has dragged beyond their expectation
“As the job progressed it was observed that the listed supervisory ministry– The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing never showed up to enforce standards; rather left the contractor all alone to carry on with such a shoddy job,” he noted.
He added that the shoulders of the road were poorly done.
according to him, barely four days after the asphalts were laid,
parts of the roads are already peeling off while cracks can be seen all over, which he said will not last the rainy season.
