Sylva Loses Out As Tribunal Upholds Dickson’s Election

The Bayelsa State Governorship Election Tribunal has upheld Governor Siriyake Dickson’s election, thus throwing out former governor Timipre Sylva’s petition against the election.

The tribunal held that the supplementary election that was conducted by INEC in addition to the December 6, 2015 governorship election was valid and legal.

Sylva is of the APC while Dickson was elected on the platform of the PDP.

Sylva had insisted that the first election was conclusive and that the January 9, 2016 supplementary election ordered and organized by INEC was illegal.

The Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Alegboa, said Sylva failed to prove that there was substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

Details later.
