Sir, It was so strange and highly vicarious to me that a vicious character could write on an issue at the prestigious Osun State Polytechnic, Iree in a national newspaper where the writer laid his hand on issues he knew little or nothing about going by the contents of his letter.
For the sake of clarification and avoidance of doubt, as a convener of a rights group in the institution and having carried out an independent investigation on the subject matter, I wish to state that
there is no crisis of any kind in the administrative set up or any other arm of the institution.
Although the writer in his letter assumed the position of a judge in his own case, it is important to state clearly that the position he seems to be referring to in his letter was not at any time declared
vacant by the Governor of Osun State, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, who is the Visitor to the institution, neither was there any time the Governing Council of the Polytechnic, which is saddled with the responsibility of controlling the affairs of the institution declared any position vacant.
As a rights activist and human rights crusader, I have personally conducted an independent investigation when the rumours became rife on the said position and I found out that it was an attempt by some disgruntled elements within the system to gain sympathy, having lost
attention due to their erroneous acts.
Let me at this juncture recall that, everybody within and outside the polytechnic community knew the damages done by a very senior administrative staff member of the institution who is today paying for his anomalies and avarice following his demotion and subsequent transfer to a sister institution in the state. The said officer of the Polytechnic awarded high mark to an officer who did not sit for promotion test, a situation which made other members of staff protested when the results were out.
Upon investigation of the matter and interrogation of the said officer by the management of the Polytechnic, it was confirmed that the said officer favoured his ally and this led to serious sanction against him by the management of the institution. Though, the offence committed by the officer, which he confirmed to have committed during interrogation attracts dismissal, the council of the institution was magnanimous enough to have tampered justice with mercy by demoting him rather than dismissing him from service.
This same person in question ran to the state Head of Service who we understand attend the same church with him and looked for ways to deal with others in the system, especially the man who succeeded him in office.
It is important to stress on this note that the office of the Head of Service has no business with the Osun state Polytechnic, Iree and this is clear on the edict that established the Polytechnic. Only the
Governing Council and the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education can make recommendations to the Governor.
