Members of South-South Executives in Oyo State have described the Obong Iberedem Akwa Ibom in the state, Edidem Etim Bassey Akanyak (ARSM) as a role model, worthy leader, and Royal Father who has impacted meaningfully into the lives of members of his community.
Leader of the team, Honourable Abednego Odelle, made the submission during the first official visit of the South-South Executives to the monarch in his palace in Ologuneru area, Ibadan.
According to him, Edidem Akanyak has displayed high patriotism and a great fatherly role to non-indigenes and members of Akwa Ibom community resident in the state by responding promptly to their needs even when it was not convenient for him.
Hon. Odelle who is the president of South-South indigenes in the state thanked the Obong for his warm reception, adding that they embarked on the visit to fulfill their promise of visiting all the Royal Fathers representing the South-South Zone in the state.
While calling for cooperation among the Royal Fathers, he, however, noted that an unnamed person from Akwa Ibom in the state seemed to be the one creating confusion and illegalities in the zone.
He encouraged the community to fish out the individual and point out his mistakes in order to set the record strait, just as he expressed the optimism that any issue presented at a round table can be discussed and settle amicably.
In his submission, the president of Cross Rivers State Executives who also doubles as the General Secretary of BRACED, Dr. Gilbert Adie advised the Royal Fathers to institute an action that will bring about a consensus leader of South-South in the state.
During his speech, Chairman, Elders Council of Akwa Ibom Community in the state, Barrister U.I Ikpangeto had informed the visiting executives that Akwa Ibom will not allow a honoured warrior nominated by the king to overshadow their king who passed through a normal process, endorsed and certified by Akwa Ibom State government.
Responding, the Obong Iberedem, Edidem Etim Akanyak thanked the South-South Executives for the visit, describing it as a welcome development.
While calling for robust understanding mutual cooperation among members of the zone, the Royal Father said,” let us jaw and not war- we are not at war.
He applauded the effort of South-South executives to visit him in his palace aimed at bringing unity among the region.
He further appealed for a joint effort to attract government attention to appoint any of their son for a position in the state.
“South East is occupying two positions in the government of Oyo State without a single one from South-South. We have work to do to achieve the feat,” he said.
