Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has declared that the Yoruba race is lucky to have Nobel laureate Prof.  Wole Soyinka and the late D.O. Fagunwa, whose works have projected the image of Yoruba people to the global audience.

The governor said the state was particularly proud that the “Forest of a thousand demon”, which was popularised by the late Fagunwa exists in the state.

Akeredolu, while receiving members of the Fagunwa Study Group (FSG), led by Prof. Tunde Babawale in his office in Alagbaka, Akure, said the state is ready to welcome Prof. Soyinka for the FSG International Conference, billed to hold in Akure.

The governor said the state government is ready to give total support to any individual or corporate bodies interested in turning the Igbo Eledumare at Okeigbo into a tourist site.

He said the tourist site will boost the state economy and also keep the work of the late author alive for future generations.

Prof. Babawale thanked the governor for always assisting the group, especially with the launch of a compilation of books written by the late Fagunwa, who hailed from Okeigbo in Ondo State.

He told the governor of their plans for the four-day international conference that will attract dignitaries from within and around the globe.
