THE Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Osayuki Oshodin has been flown to a hospital in the United Kingdom following alleged poisoning.
However, according to a close source to the VC he is responding to treatment.
Professor Oshodin according to family sources has been having a running battle with his health after being afflicted with strange ailment.
This is just as a social cultural organization, the Benin National Congress, (BNC), Wednesday vowed to resist any attempt by persons they described as a ‘cartel of former Vice-Chancellor and bursar’ determines to unleash an orchestrated plan against the VC.
It would be recalled that Oshodin have been having a running battle with the anti-graft agency on the strength of a petition written against him on alleged financial crime.
The group in a signed statement by it publicity and Intelligence secretary Dr. David Ekomwenrenren, also insist to resist the appointment of their loyalist as the next Vice Chancellor of the institution come October, 2014.
Statement read in part: “We have it on good authority that the ploy to frustrate Prof. Oshodin from becoming one of Nigeria’s most celebrated Vice- Chancellors; coupled with moves to manipulate one of their renegades as VC, UNIBEN on the inglorious ground that, while the man is battling his health and financial crimes allegation crisis due to mischievous allegations and poisoning of our esteemed brother and son; this cabal will perfect plans to install their surrogate as substantive or acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution. But this is wishful thinking, and it has no bearing in civilized climes that we are aiming at.
“Let it be known that as soon as we confirm the masterminds of these attempted homicide; we may resort to jungle means to avenge this anti-Benin affront on the psyche and Land of our Great Ancestors. For forty years, we were deprived the chance of producing a Vice-Chancellor in the University of Benin, now, we got one by divine grace, they want to kill him by cruel means. The man has been flown abroad for poisoning-related issues.
“We will openly mobilize against anyone desperately seeking to benefit from these centrifugal attacks on Benin intelligentsias, where Prof. Oshodin belongs. We call on the intelligence community to make frantic efforts to unearth those behind the despicable means to terminate Prof. Oshodin’s life as failure to act may be an invitation to self-help by the Benin citizens and concerned Nigerians.”
