An 80-year-old woman, simply identified as Simiat Ganiyu has allegedly been killed by a stray stone at Isale-Osun area of Osogbo, Osun State.
The incident was said to have happened around 10:30pm on Monday when some group of thugs were fighting over supremacy at Isale-Osun area.
It was further learnt that when the thugs were throwing stones at each other, one of the stones hit the aged woman and she collapsed.
The octogenarian, who was at the scene to make truce was later confirmed dead at the Osun State Teaching Hospital in Osogbo.
Our correspondent also gathered that after the death of the aged woman, her son, Adelu, 28, mobilised his gang members to the area to seek revenge.
Around 5am on Tuesday, the gang members were said to have barricaded the Osun Drive highway, with rocks, woods and other objects making burnfire opposite the Osogbo area office of Nigeria Immigration Service, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osogbo South division, Isale-Osun.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident.
She disclosed that the leader of the gang member, who barricaded the area, Adelu has been arrested for causing mayhem and preventing the free flow of traffic.
“The principal suspect, Adelu has been arrested. The corpse of her mother has been deposited at UNIOSUN teaching hospital morgue while further investigation is ongoing,” she said.
