The Chairman House Committee on Information, Youth and Sport in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto Thursday said the suspended members gained entry into the hallow chamber with a stolen mace which culminated into fracas between members Wednesday.
Hon Adjoto at a media briefing to up the press on the crisis said the suspended members including the factional Speaker came into the complex in company of some heavily armed police officers at about 6am with a caricature mace that was once declared missing during the tenure of the former Hon. Zakawanu Garuba led Assembly.
He said the house under the leadership of the Speaker Rt Hon. Uyi Igbe led group immediately mobilised to the chambers to stop them from holding any sitting and called on the state command to investigate the role played by these policemen whom he alleged tried to stop them from entering the House.
Hon Adjoto insisted that Rt Hon Festus Ebea, Patrick Osayimen, Jude Ise-Idehen and Friday Ogieriakhi remain suspended.
He stated that it was part of finding lasting solution to the crisis that the House under the Uyi Igbe-led Speakership went to court to restrain them from coming to the House.
“The Committee on Ethics and Privileges working in line with the House rules, did their job and found them wanting, we exhausted all House rules and did everything carefully before suspending them. It has nothing to do with party affiliation it’s purely an issue of misconduct.
“Under the leadership of Mr Speaker, Igbe, we had no option but to go to court to restrain them from entering the House, within the assembly precinct and quarters.”
