Tension in Ikire Over Kingship Throne

Palpable tension in ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State as some youths in the town chased away the Akire of Ikire, Oba Olatunde Falabi Lambeloye III and his chiefs from the palace.

Unconfirmed reports said two persons died during the fracas.

The pandemonium, it was learnt was as a result of an Obaship tussle among two ruling houses in the town.

The Supreme Court had in 2014 ruled that it was not the turn of Oba Olatunde Falabi to be on the throne while a similar judgement was also delivered by the State High Court in Ikire few months ago.

It was gathered that trouble started around 10 a.m when some irate youths stormed the palace with different inscriptions declaring the continued stay of Oba Olatunde Falabi on the throne as illegal.

It was further gathered that the presence of soldiers at the palace aggravated the situation which led to a clash between soldiers and some irate Youths.

The areas affected by the development are; Sabo, Oke Ada, Monro, Sango, Popo, Obada, Oja Ale and Ita-Ikun.

Reacting, the State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Mrs Yemisi Opalola confirmed that there was crisis in the town.

She said “truly there was a crisis in Ikire but we are still waiting for the report.”
