The Meeting I Held with Asiwaju Tinubu, Aregbesola is for Party Success – Osun Speaker

By Tunde Oyekola, Osogbo

The Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Najeem Salaam, on Thursday declared in Osogbo that the meeting he recently held in Lagos with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National leader of APC, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Osun State Governor, Prince Gboyega Famoodun, State Chairman of the party, is for the success of the party and development of the state.
Speaking at the APC secretariat in Osogbo while declaring his intention to contest the governorship election of the state, Hon. Salaam debunked the rumour that he went to the meeting in Lagos with the Leaders of the party to trade off his ambition.
The Speaker while confirming that he held a meeting with the leaders of the party in Lagos explained that the meeting discussed how the party will succeed in the state as well as the development of the state.
According to Hon Salaam, “We held a meeting in Lagos with Asiwaju Tinubu, Ogbeni Aregbesola and Prince Famoodun, the state chairman of our party where we discussed how our party will succeed and our state will develop. I did not withdraw my ambition to contest for the governorship of the state and I did not collect the sum of N250 Million from anybody to withdraw from the 2018 gubernatorial election.
Some people even said that I have no money to run for the election while others said that I don’t have people that will follow me but today, you all can see that there are many people who want my ambition to be realised,” he stressed.
The Speaker reiterated his position that the next governor of the state should come from Osun West senatorial district.
He said: “In the interest of fairness, justice and equity, Osun West should be allowed to produce the next governor from our party.
Recalling that the late Isiaka Adeleke who came from the West, only spent 22 months as Governor of the state, he said Chief Bisi Akande spent four years followed by Olagunsoye Oyinlola who spent seven and half years both of whom are from the Central senatorial district.
The leader of the state parliament noted further that the East senatorial district where Governor Rauf Aregbesola came from, would complete their two terms of eight years in November after the expiration of his tenure.
Reacting to the allegation of incompetency, Salaam boasted that he his eminently qualified to govern the state with his experience from councilor to the number three citizen in the state.
He prayed for the executive of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the selection of party’s candidate for the September 22 governorship election.
He said: “I was aware that the executives of the party are confused with the situation of things, praying that God will guide them in selecting a good candidate for the party.
I know that you are at a confused stage in this matter, God will guide you in selecting a candidate that will win the election for our party.”
In his response, Prince Famoodun, the Chairman of the party, maintained that the constitution of the party would be followed in selecting the candidate of the party for the election.
