The Speaker of Lagos House of Assembly, Rt Hon Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has urged the wealthy particularly Muslim faithfuls to take of the needy, poor and the homeless in the society so as to reduce the level of poverty.
Obasa said this in his opening remark as the chief host of the 12th Annual Hijrah lecture which was held at the pavilion of the Lagos House of Assembly complex, Alausa, Ikeja.
According to him, We need to see those that doesn’t have as part of us and ensure we assist them at all times.
He added ” We should not only think about ourselves and our immediate family alone . We should think about people that live around us and see them as part of our responsibility.”
He said that when one take care of his family alone and ignore the needy around him he puts himself and his family in danger of being attacked by the poor.
He said that there are several verses of the Holy Qu’ran that encourage Muslims to help the needy through Zakat, Awqaf, Sadaqat.
