Following the threat to beat up Senator Oluremi Rinubu, wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Senator Bola Tinubu, issued by Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West, members of the APC in the South-west zone have declared the zone a no-go area for the lawmaker, if he (Melaye) refused to withdraw his statement on Senator Tinubu and tender unreserved apology to the entire Tinubu family.
The position of the South-west zone of the party was made known in a press release issued and signed by the Zonal National Secretary of the party, Ayo Afolabi, copies of which were made available to journalists in Ibadan on Thursday.
The party lashed out at Senator Melaye, saying, “The All Progressives Congress members (Southwest zone) feel scandalised and traumatised that we are in the same political party with the likes of Senator Dino Melaye who was credited with using the sovereignty of the floor of the Senate chambers to address Senator Oluremi Tinubu a very distinguished senator and wife of our leader, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a very rude, indecent and uncouth language. We are surprised.”
The release further added: “Dino we know was rejected in 2011 by his constituency at the polls, only for him to clandestinely contest the Senate seat riding on the popularity of the All Progressives Congress to climb to the hallowed chambers of the senate. But the leopard never shed its skin,” adding that Melaye was nothing but a disgrace to the Nigerian senate.
The party, however, called on the women society organisations to see the action of the senator as a fight against the denigration of the Nigerian women.
In the same vein, the party called on Chief John Oyegun, the national chairman of the party, to call on what it described as the disgrace of a person in Sen. Melaye, a wolf in a sheperd’s skin to order.
The same call also went to the Ag. Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpton to note the threat issued by Senator Melaye that he would kill anybody who testifies against the accused persons in the Senate forgery case, while cautioning Melaye to desist from such unruly behaviour on any colleague from any part of the country in the future.
