An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Oyo State, Mr Akinyemi Akinlabi, has commended the state Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) for announcing Feb. 11, 2017 for local government election in the state.
Akinlabi, a former Chairman of Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of the state on at the weekend told WESTERN POST in Ibadan that the announcement was a welcome development.
He commended Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of the state and OYSIEC for their commitment towards bringing democratic government to the grassroots
Akinlabi said the governor had displayed high level of responsiveness to the yearnings of the people, saying he has been a leader who kept promises.
He also commended the governor on the appointment of credible and experienced people as members of the electoral body in the state.
“I commend the OYSIEC for announcing February 11, 2017 as the date for the much awaited local government election.”
“I also commend the governor on the appointment of credible and experience hands as members of OYSIEC and for providing them with the support to function.”
He added that: “the announced date is more practicable, achievable, realistic and legal having been announced by the appropriate institution.”
Akinlabi said that with the caliber and reputation of members of the commission, he was sure that the commission would deliver a free, fair, democratic, transparent and credible election.
He urged the OYSIEC to release the complete time table on time to shame oppositions and to fast track the preparation of political parties, aspirants and voters towards the election.
