Wife of Lagos State Governor Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu on Monday said togetherness promotes goodness and separation causes misery. She made this known at the 2019 Eid-el-Kabir celebration at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja.
In her address Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu said the celebration is in remembrance of the command given by Allah to Ibrahim which signifies the faith he had him.
”Today Muslims all over the world commemorate and remember Ibrahim’s trials, by slaughtering an animal such as sheep, camel, or goat and given the meat to others. One-third is eaten by immediate and relatives, one-third to friends, and one-third to be donated to the poor.
“This act symbolizes our willingness to give up things that are of benefit to us or close to our hearts, in order to follow Allah’s commands. It also symbolizes our willingness to give up some of our own bounties, in order to strengthen ties of friendship and help those who are in need. We recognize that all blessings come from Allah, and we should open our hearts and share with others.”
Mrs Sanwo-Olu in her address said a true Muslim is one who submits his or herself completely to the Lord, willing to follow Allah’s commands completely and obediently.
“Togetherness and mutual cooperation brings prosperity to all. This creates bond of friendship and helpfulness to one another in times of need. It gives rise to strength and power to face an enemy.
“We should be thankful to Almighty Allah that peace and harmony reigns in Lagos State, we must continue to live as one by so doing the State Government will remain focus to deliver on its promises and bring developmental changes to the State.”
In a lecture titled: ‘The four golden lessons from Prophet Ibrahim’, an Associate Professor from the American-Nigerian University Yola Adamawa State, Lukmon AbdulRaheem advised Muslims to emulate Prophet Ibrahim who exhibited sound faith in Allah, submitted to his will and showed commitment to nation building as well as hospitality.
Dr AbdulRaheem urged the Muslim Ummah to key into the developmental agenda of the current administration in the State tagged THEMES.
