By Temitope Adedeji
It was a weekend of tears and sorrow at Oka-Akoko in Ondo State yesterday when a trailer ran over a middle-aged man identified as Ajayi Ale while on his motor bike popularly called Okada.
He was on his way to get himself some items, according to an eyewitness, Tunde Oyewole.
The driver of the trailer was said to be coming from Abuja on a very high speed trying to overtake the bike Ale was riding but unfortunately, the driver lost the grip of the trailer and ran over the middle’aged man, which resulted in his death.
The deceased was said to be the only child of his parents.
The paramount ruler of the town, the Olubaka of Oka, Oba Adebori Adeleye, sympathised with the family of the deceased.
He urged the government to divert the trailers away from Oka to Owo-Ipele Express road, so as to put an end to the frequent occurrence of these pathetic stories.
Meanwhile, all efforts to reach the Ikare Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Jimoh Bashiru, proved abortive.
It took the intervention of the combined team of military men to restore sanity in the area as the youths barricaded the ever-busy Abuja road after first setting the trailer ablaze.
