The formal transfer of power from outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan to President-elect Muhammadu Buhari has begun.
President Jonathan formally presented handover notes to Buhari on Thursday afternoon at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The ceremony was conducted at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in presence of Vice President Namadi Sambo, some outgoing ministers, top government functionaries and some leaders of the All Progressives Congress.
Earlier before then, President Jonathan had conducted Buhari round the seat of power at Aso Rock.
The president presented to Buhari executive summary of his handover notes and report of the Constitutional Conference he convened last year in Abuja.
Presenting the handover notes to Buhari, President Jonathan said the notes would help the new president navigate around the task of running the country.
The president said he and his team had done their best for the country and wished Buhari well.
Buhari was calm throughout the ceremony, folding his arms except when he stretched them out to collect the handover notes and the confab report.
He said he would make a comment on the handover notes until he had studied them. But he commended President Jonathan for conceding defeat in the presidential poll, saying things would have been difficult if he had not done so.
Later on Thursday evening, there would be inauguration dinner expected to be attended by Jonathan, Buhari, members of the Federal Executive Council and some APC leaders.
The inauguration of the new president proper is billed for 9 am on Friday, May 29, Democracy Day, athe Eagle Square, Abuja.
