Politicians across parties in Oyo State as well as eminent dignitaries from various walks of life converged in Ibadan the state capital on Monday to pay tributes to the late former governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala as his weeklong burial rites begins.
The Jogor Center, venue of the event was filled to capacity as various speakers showered encomiums on the late political icon who passed on January 12, 2022 at the age of 71
In a posthumous lecture titled: “Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala: The lifetime of a humane Politician”, Prof Tunji Olaopa, a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour And Productivity, described the gathering as an alliance across the broad political spectrum in Oyo State
Professor Olaopa said it is significant that the political alliance is convoked in honour of the late governor to emulate his political ideology of politics without bitterness or “live and let’s live ‘political philosophy
Olaopa described late Otunba Alao-Akala as a quintessential political leader whose compassionate nature reached out to those in need.
He also described the deceased aa a bridge-builder, master negotiator and a typical politician motivated by sheer ambition hence his movement from one party to another
Ogun State governor, Mr. Dapo Abiodun who was by represented by Mr. Tunde Oladunjoye, the publicity secretary of the APC in the state, in his tribute urged younger politicians to emulate the virtues of the late governor.
He appealed to members of the APC in the state to be united in order to forge a common front ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Dignitaries that paid glowing tributes to the late former governor included; Senator Fatai Buhari, Senator Kola Balogun, Mr. Adeniyi Akintola (SAN), Prof. Taoreed Adedoja, Mr. Remi Oseni, Dr Isiaka Kolawole and Chief Mrs Bodede Adedibu amongst others.
