Two People, Vehicles, Goods Burnt to Ashes in Kogi Auto Crash

No fewer than two people have been burnt beyond recognition while several goods worth several millions of Naira were  destroyed in a multiple accident that involved five articulated trucks and two J5 buses.

The road mishap which happened at about 11:00pm on Tuesday, 18th December 2018 at old Zango-Idakoivo slope, Okene, had all the seven vehicles burnt to ashes; thus leading to total gridlock of vehicular movement.

This, it was learnt forced travelers plying Okene route to park their vehicles to avoid the fire from the burning vehicles.

Eye witness told journalists that It took officers of Okene FRSC unit command and  members of the community, several hours to put out the fire under control .

The Unit Commander of the FRSC Okene Command, Dr Adelaja Ogungbemi told journalists  that the multiple accident was caused by a brake failure from one of the trailers which lost control and ran into several other vehicles, adding that the impact of the accident ignited the fire that engulfed  other vehicles involved.

The Commander said that officers of his unit did all they could before they were able to bring the fire under control by 10:am of Wednesday 19th December 2018.

He however assured that his unit is making frantic efforts to clear the obstruction created to allow free flow of vehicles.

He also admonished vehicle users to ensure that they put their vehicles in order before they put it on the road.

Adelaja was optimistic  that both the federal and Kogi State Government are making efforts to fix alternative routes in the area before the yuletide period, in order to ensure free flow of vehicles.
