The Afenifere Group in the United Kingdom (UK) and Europe has warned the Federal Government against imposition of any form of RUGA in any Yoruba land, adding that no Yoruba state would surrender an inch of its land for settlement for herdsmen.
In a statement signed and issued today by the Secretary of the
Group in UK and Europe, Engr. Anthony Kayode Ajayi, the Group urged all Yoruba people to unite together in battle against this evil ploy by the Buhari-led federal government in Nigeria.
The Group noted that the Federal Government plan was to use dishonest means to achieve the open grazing or cattle colony agenda which it failed to achieve through the 8th National Assembly, stressing that they would deploy everything available to stop any attempt to establish cattle colonies in Yoruba lands in any form of RUGA settlements for herdsmen.
“President Buhari should allow peace to reign in Nigeria and pursue the global best practices as against his quest to plant his kinsmen in all parts of Nigeria.
“There are approximately 250 million cows producing milk around the world. There are approximately 10 million cows in North America, 23 million in the EU, and 6 million in Australia and New Zealand. Milk production is on the rise in Asia including in countries not traditionally known for their milk consumption, such as China, which now has more than 12 million cows producing milk.
“The majority of cows in the US are kept without access to pasture for most of their lives. This is known as “zero grazing,” and is practiced increasingly in large-scale operations in North America and parts of the UK.
“In operations where they do not have access to pasture, cows are often housed in sheds. Some sheds have outdoor yards.
“According to the FAO, the world has 1.468 billion head of cattle. Brazil has the largest cattle inventory in the world followed by India and China. More than 100 countries (104) have a cattle inventory in excess of 1 million head.
“The United States has the 4th largest cattle inventory in the world, behind China and a head of Ethiopia. Their government did not imposed cattle colony on the people, while should Nigeria case?”, the Group said.
The Group also stated that the current state of insecurity, continued killings, kidnapping and the onslaught of Boko Haram who daily slaughter innocent Nigerians are enough threats already to the continued existence of Nigeria, let alone the resultant effect of this present plot on Nigeria.
“The Land Use Act has vested land within the state in the state Governor and all non-urban land in the local government to the council chairmen. Therefore, the federal government should not do otherwise to provoke most of the already angry Nigerians.
“The federal government should as a matter of national interest handle the 30-day ultimatum posed by the leadership of the Northern youths. If they touch or kill anybody from the Southern Nigeria as threatened, they are calling for war”, the Group warned.
The Group also stated, “We the Southerners have been friendly and peaceful coexisted with the Hausa/Fulani people for a very long time and we are very much ready for that relationship not RUGA.
The group also used the opportunity to express their support for the position of Pa Fasoroti led Afenifere on these issues.
