The former Deputy Governor of Osun State and 2018 Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Senator Iyiola Omisore on Monday officially decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Omisore, who was the Governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2014, registered to be member of the APC at his polling unit at Moore in Ile-Ife, Osun state
He was welcomed by the Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Benedict Alabi, APC State Chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun, Commissioners in Oyetola’s cabinet and top APC chieftains.
In his remarks, the deputy governor said displayed his progressive tendencies which are service to his people.
Alabi said, “I want to welcome former deputy Governor and illustrious son of Ile-Ife, Senator Iyiola Omisore to our party, APC. Senator Omisore journey to APC started in September 2018 governorship election.
“Omisore displayed his progressive tendencies which are service to his people and unalloyed love to the well being of people of the State. He chose between lies and truth, he opted for the truth and service to the people and formed an alliance with our great party to put end to PDP rascality. He started his political career as a progressive and this is a homecoming for us. I welcome you to this party.”
Also speaking, Prince Famodun said Omisore’s defection will be the beginning of a new era in the state, saying it will be of immense benefit to APC.
He said, “I’m glad to witness the registration of Senator Iyiola Omisore into APC. The former governor of putting his name down today as a member of APC. What is been done today put an end to all the insinuations that he will never join APC and that is deceiving APC.
“On behalf of the leadership of the party I want to thank you, Senator, such that what you are doing today will be of immense benefit to APC, Ile-Ife and Osun State. This will be the beginning of a new era in the state.”
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to Governor Oyetola on Education, Jamiu Olawumi described Omisore’s registration as a mileage that will make APC better.
According to Jamiu, “In the last gubernatorial election, the choice of APC was very better, and if we now have followers of Senator Iyiola Omisore joining us from SDP, we know that our better is being bettered again, and other parties will have to struggle before they can catch up with us. So, we are comfortable.
“It is a simple example of Osmosis in Biology. The stronger is drawing the weaker. It is for those who enjoy accolades of Nigerians, who have made their marks, who have enjoined political enigma that Nigeria needs to move forward. This is a big mileage, and I can assure you, wherever Iyiola Omisore is, majority of Ife people are there. And we are happy we are having him today.”
