Mrs. Saanumi Jumoke, the mother of the six children set ablaze by one Williams Adenuga, the palm wine seller, who felt cheated and jilted by his girlfriend, said until she entered grave, she would never forget the shock and new status she found herself as a widow and a childless woman.
She called on well-meaning Nigerians to come to her rescue as she is dying of burnt suffered from last week’s ugly incident.
WESTERNPOST Correspondent searched and discovered the woman at the home of one of her relations in Igbokoda on Wednesday, to talk more on the entire incident.
While on the search for the woman and the only surviving soul among the nine people in the room, WESTERNPOST visited the house in Igbodigo, in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.
A neighbour, who pleaded not to be mentioned, explained that it was around 2:am on the fateful day, when everybody had been fast asleep that, the man, Adenuga, came and burnt the room where six children of the affected woman, with her husband, who has been sick for longer time and another son of her sister who came on holiday, with the so-called girlfriend were.
However, Mrs Saanumi Jumoke, a petty trader, explained further that, she escaped the death narrowly, when she woke up some seconds to the time of the incident when nature pressed on her and went out to answer the call of nature, that she suddenly heard the sound like a bomb in the room with heavy smoke coming out of the room, the sound woke other neighbours but before long, all the occupants of the one room apartment had burnt beyond recognition, mostly the seven children, who could not help themselves from the fire and the smoke at the same time.
The names of her six children were: Adebayo, Joy, Mrecy, Johnson, Adesewa and Temidayo. Four out of the six happened to be male while the remaining two were girls.
However, in the cause of our investigation, Mrs Jumoke made us realised that, a naked lantern was in the room ,which gave more power to the petrol the man used in burning her six children and her husband to death.
More so, the traditional ruler of Igbodigo, Oba J. E Ayeku, explained that, he has never seen such a wicked and heartless man of that magnitude in his entire life, who could wipe off a whole family just because a lady jilted him.
According to him, “I , Oba J E Ayeku, Of Igbodigo in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, was shocked to the marrow when the news came to me that one Adenuga, from Ayeka, came in the middle of the night and set a family ablazed, it sounded absurd and ridiculous to me,” he said.
The traditional ruler also said further that, immediately he was told, he summoned his chiefs and ordered that the “Wicked” man must be chased and caught by any means they can apply. Which according to him, the combine efforts of the traditional Chiefs and the prayers of the faithfuls assisted the police in getting hold on him before long.
WESTERNPOST went further to get one or two family members of the suspect at Ayeka, where he hails but all efforts proved seriously abortive as people were not ready to speak and also not willing to describe the family house of Adenuga thinking doing so may cause whosoever a problem of attack in the nearest future.
Moreover, the house where the ugly incident happened has been put under lock and key by the children of the landlord and the whole house deserted but the window through which Adenuga was able to penetrate was still there with burnt stains all over the window and the roof of the house.
It took WESTERNPOST time and stress before the bereaved woman could talk to us on the ground where she was being consoled and pacified by friends and family members at Igbokoda, a riverine area of the state.
It would be recalled that the ondo state police command paraded Adenuga in Akure on Tuesday after he was caught at ijebu-Ode, in Ogun State on Monday evening.
The Suspect, in his confessional statement to western post on Tuesday said, he did what he did because the sister of her girlfriend, Mrs Saanumi Jumoke, did not allow him marrying Titi, the girlfriend.
Adenuga, the suspect said further that, he was charged N20,000 by the sister, before she could allow him marrying the lady but the sister denied ever requested for such money.
She said with agony and burnt wound all over her body that, her sister, Titi, has been living with him for long, so how would she now asked for such money.
Titi, the girlfriend is now at an Intensive Health Care Unit Of the state Trauma Centre, Ondo Town, struggling for survival as she sustained serious burnt injury which her ankle and wrists were said to have been severely damaged and her hair burnt slight down the skull, according to her sister.
Mrs Jumoke is now pleading to all well meaning Nigerians, to assist her in whatever means that can bring her succour.
