Uphold Accountability, Prudency, Ogun Assembly Charges MDAs

The Ogun State House of Assembly through its Committee on Public Accounts and Anti- Corruption has commenced the consideration and scrutiny of the 2013 and 2014 audited reports of all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the State, with a charge to Heads of the MDAs to further uphold the principles of accountability and transparency.

The Committee led by Hon. Oyenuga Olufowobi, gave the charge while receiving some Heads of the MDAs, who were at the Assembly to respond to audit query concerning their agencies, describing the exercise as an integral part of the Assembly’s oversight functions put in place to assess the MDAs audit reports prepared by the Office of the State Auditor General in line with Sections 85 (5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

Oyenuga, in company of Honourables Tunde Sanusi, Adebiyi Adeleye, Adebowale Ojuri and Viwanu Ojo, enjoined the heads of the MDAs to be more pro-active by adhering strictly to international accounting procedures and financial regulations with a view to promoting prudence and accountability in public service.

Also speaking, Honourables Tunde Sanusi, Adebiyi Adeleye, Adebowale Ojuri and Viwanu Ojo, stressed the need for the management of MDAs to always respond promptly to audit query in line with the public service rules and regulation so as to promote transparency in the running of their various agencies.

Issues raised in the Auditor-General’s reports were maintenance of assets register to ensure adequate and proper control and monitoring of assets and store as well as internal control mechanisms.

The agencies that appeared before the Committee included the Ministry of Health, which was commended for promptly responding to the auditor’s report; others were Ministries of Agriculture, Special Duties, Education Science and Technology, Commerce and Industry, Urban and Physical Planning, Women Affairs and Social Development, Bureau of Lands and Survey among others.
