Following a reported attack on a commercial motorcycle operator along Akure-Owo expressway in Akure, the Ondo state capital over the weekend by yet to be apprehended Fulani herdsmen, the State Coordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Comrade Pius Ogunsanya has denied membership of the victim.
Ogunsanya said neither the victim, Sola Oguntoye nor the spokesman, Toyin Omotayo are members of OPC in Ondo state.
Ogunsanya, who expressed sympathy with the victim, however, said it was necessary and very cogent as the leader of OPC in the State to clear the misinformation about the victim and his claim as OPC member.
Oguntade was reportedly attacked by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Araromi area of Oba-Ile in Akure North area of Ondo State , last Friday at Owode/Araromi axis while he was working with his motorcycle.
He was reportedly attacked by the herdsmen at Osi junction after he requested for fares. He was shot severally but when the bullet could not enter, they hit him with planks.
However, the State Coordinator of OPC, Pius Ogunsanya said after he painstakingly checked the membership list of both Akure South and Akure North council areas, both the victim and Omotayo were never members of the regional congress.
“My candid advice is that anybody claiming to be an OPC member must adequately state his or her local government of operation and the leader in charge.
“The OPC under the leadership of the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, IBA Gani Adams which I am the Ondo State Coordinator, won’t engage any member in unprotected assignment in any part of the state.
“We wish to assure member of the public that the Aare Onakakanfo Gani Adams led OPC in the state is combat ready to face any criminal aggression and attacks with the main objective to secure our people and territorial integrity.”
Ogunsanya urged security operatives in the state to dig deep into the matter and unveil the perpetrators of the evil attack and bring them to book.
