Residents of Gbodofon area in Osogbo, Osun State capital were thrown into panic on Thursday as gunmen disrupted the meeting of The Osun Progressives (TOP), a caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The gunmen suspected to be political thugs were said to have invaded the Oranmiyan House while TOP weekly meeting was still going on.
It was gathered that traders and passersby at the scene scampered for safety when the gunmen attacked the meeting around 2pm.
It was learnt that gun shot rend the air for about five minutes during the attack.
It was further learnt that the gunmen came in black Sienna bus and headed towards Ogo-Oluwa after perpetrating the act.
TOP is the group loyal to the Minister of Interior and former Governor of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
It was also learnt that operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) who are usually on ground at the weekly meeting of the TOP members were absent on Thursday.
Speaking during a press conference, the Chairman of TOP, Elder Adebiyi Adelowo, called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali to wade into the APC internal crisis in order to avoid unnecessary attacks.
