Many lives have reportedly been lost in an inferno on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday.
The inferno, according to the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi was caused by an accident involving about seven trailers and two cars.
The accident has resulted in serious traffic gridlock on the ever-busy road.
The Agency said: “A case of fire outbreak has been reported along the proposed new Kara Market inbound Ibadan.
“Around 0400hrs, a fully loaded trailer fell on the side and in the ensuing gridlock caused by the incident, a tanker laden with fuel, in the holdup suddenly burst into flames affecting seven other trucks and two cars in the process, with at least 13 casualties involved.
“While rescue operations continue with the combined efforts of TRACE, FRSC, Police, SCDC and the Fire Service, motorists are advised to ply the alternative routes below.
“Vehicles moving inbound Lagos should go through Saapade-Ode/Remo-Iperu-Sagamu to relink Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“In addition, vehicles moving inbound Ibadan should also go through Sagamu-Iperu-Ode/Remo-Saapade to relink Lagos-Ibadan expressway.”
“While any inconveniences are highly regretted, drivers are implored to please maintain lane disciple, so as not worsen the traffic situation.”
