Some suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as ‘Yahoo Boys’ at the early hour of Tuesday in their numbers protested against their incessant arrest by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
The youth who carried different placards with the inscription: ‘Say no to EFCC’, ‘Probe Magu’ started bonfire at Lameco roundabout in Osogbo and later barricaded the entrance to the Government House, Oke-Fia.
It was gathered that EFCC operatives had raided some of the residences of the ‘Yahoo Boys’ around Rinsayo, Adetunji Estate, and other areas of Osogbo around 2am.
It was also gathered that other ‘Yahoo Boys’ and hoodlums in their support, mobilised themselves and waylaid the convoy of the EFCC at Lameco roundabout area of Osogbo.
The youths then moved to the Government House around 8:15 am, blocked the route and stopped vehicular movement.
It would be recalled that Yoruba self-acclaimed activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularity known as Sunday Igboho last Saturday during the Yoruba Nation rally in Osogbo openly declared support for the internet fraudsters.
Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident, adding that they had been trying to control the situation from escalating further.
“We are aware of the situation, we are now trying to appease the protesters and clear the bonfire so that people can go about their lawful duties without fear of harassment,” she said.
