MTN Nigeria Plc generated N725billion from Nigerians’ voice calls alone in 2019 as against N681.9billion in 2018.
Western Post gathered that the telecommunication giant’s voice calls contributed 62 per cent of N1.17 trillion revenue generated in 2019 compared to N1.04trillion in 2018.
The listed company on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) disclosed also that revenue from Data moved to N219.4billion in 2019 from N154.13billion in 2018 while revenue from Short Message Service (SMS) dropped by nearly six per cent to N13.5 billion in 2019 from N14.31billion reported in 2018.
However, the telecommunication giant profit after tax increased by 38.73 per cent to N202.1billion in 2019 from N145.7billion in 2018 while profit before tax rose by 31.07 per cent to N290.1billion in 2019 from N221.34billion reported in 2018.
With the impressive profit, the company declared a final dividend of N4.97 kobo per 2 kobo ordinary share, bringing the total dividend for the financial year ended December 31, 2019 to N7.92 kobo.
MTN Nigeria CEO, Ferdi Moolman in a statement said, “I am pleased without our performance in 2019, which demonstrates the progress we have made in the implementation of our BRIGHT strategy.
“Despite a challenging operating environment, we continued to deliver double-digit growth in service revenue in line with our medium term guidance. Voice revenue growth remained healthy and data revenue continued to accelerate, supporting a 12.6 per cent increase in service with acceleration in growth to 14 per cent YoY in Q4 2019.”
