The Managing Director, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) George Moghalu has disclosed that waterways hold a great potentials, saying that all hands must be on deck to develop waterways transportation system .
Moghalu who was received with warm reception from the community at Bari River Port ,said it was the importance he gave to the port that made him to be his first choice of his familiarisation visit.
He explained that he was ready to partner with all government agencies, local and state governments and the private sector to make sure that Baro port becomes functional and create wealth for baro community, the local and Niger State people.
He also promised to discuss the issue of the road with both Niger State and the Federal government, promised that the locals will be given priority when the port becomes fully operational.
He said the railway lines at baro will be brought back to life, pledging to visit the port again because of the importance of the port to the country.
He said the watereways hold a great potentials and all hands must be on deck to develop and improve our waterways are to encourage the private sector to key into the industry.
