All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has said the ward congress held on Saturday was devoid of any Ugly incidentt.
It said that the consensus arrangement endorsed by the leadership of the party was affirmed at the various venues across the state and witnessed by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party, in a statement issued by the Caretaker Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, said the success of the congress would reposition the party and promote unity of purpose ahead of the state congress and national convention.
” We want to congratulate our members for the success of the long awaited ward congress of our party.
“We are delighted that it was devoid of any ugly incident as the consensus arrangement as provided for by our constitution , encouraged by the national headquarters and endorsed by the large majority of the leadership and membership of Lagos State APC was affirmed at the various venues of the ward congress across the state as witnessed by INEC, security agencies and other stakeholders.
” The success of the congress will no doubt reposition our party and promote unity of purpose as we look forward to the State Congresses and the National Convention,” Oladejo.
Meanwhile, some aggrieved members of the party in Ward D of Alimosho Local Government Area staged a protest at the venue of the congress over alleged manipulation of the process.
In Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area, party members and leaders in various wards waited endlessly for the party’s electoral officers to conduct the ward congress.
Members and aspirants for various offices were seen hanging around at Wards H, J, and K as at 3pm.
At Ward J, situated at Customary Court, Alakuko, some party members and aspirants told NAN that they had been waiting since morning for the ward electoral officers.
Elder Alaba Odunuga, the Ward Chairman, who is seeking re-election, said that though the members had been waiting for long, he had got confirmation that the Ward electoral officers were close by.
Odunuga said: “They will soon come. They are close by, we have been told.”
Also, Mr Adeola Kareem, the Ward Chairman, Ward H, situated at the Ebenezer Primary School, Beckley Estate, Ojokoro said that the people had waited for long for the electoral officers.
Kareem, who noted that the electoral officer later arrived at about few minutes past 3pm, said that the exercise did not take a long time since the ward executives were elected on consensus arrangement.
He commended the party leadership for using consensus arrangement to foster peace and unity in the party.
Also, the APC Public Relation Officer in the same ward, Mr Tunde Rufai, said that many members had waited long, expecting the arrival of the electoral officers.
At Ward K situated in Gbeleyi Primary School, Ajegunle, party members and leaders were waiting for the electoral officers as at few minutes before 4pm.
