Osun State Police Command has explained that it did not arrest the acting chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the State, Elder Femi Awe, but invited him following a petition by a member of his party.
Awe, was said to have been whisked away on Thursday by Policemen during a prayer session organised by his party at Ajegunle area, opposite Dugbe Police Station, Osogbo.
It was gathered that Awe and his Secretary, Azeez Musbau, have been expelled from the party since 2018 before the governorship election.
The incumbent chairman, Dr. Sola Oladehinde reported him to the Police for parading himself as the acting chairman of the party in the state.
But the Police said the two chairmen were invited.
Confirming the incident, the State police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola said Oladehinde petitioned the police over the meeting being organised by someone imposing himself as the acting chairman of the party.
She added that the police acted on the petition and invited the duo.
“We didn’t arrest him but invited him,” she said.
