Gov Abiodun: We’ll Make Government at LG Level Active Again

By Kolawole Olayinka, Abeokuta

The Ogun State government has promised to make governance at Local Government level active by empowering them to become alive to their responsibilities.

Gov. Abiodun said this during the commissioning of a block of three classrooms at Baptist Day School, Oke-Odan in Yewa South Local Government and a block of four classrooms at Bode-Asa in Ipokia Local Government Area of the State noting that it has given out grants to all the 20 Local Government Areas to embark on at least three projects each in their Councils.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, Governor Abiodun assured that his government would ensure that the people at the grassroots are not left out in his ‘Building our Future Together’ agenda, appreciating them for their support and patience with the present administration.

“When we were campaigning, we promised that our Local Governments would not just be salary paying centres, but functional and that is exactly what we are witnessing today.

There is no Local Government that has not embarked on a minimum of three projects and when you multiple three by 20, it will give us 60 and that is to complement the efforts of the State Government,” he said.

Transition Committee Chairman, Yewa South Local Government, Alhaji Ramon Fagbenro and his counterpart from Ipokia, Hon. Abdulkabiru Abolurin commended Prince Dapo Abiodun for his efforts, towards equitable distribution of dividends of democracy to the nooks and crannies of the State.

The Council Bosses also appreciated the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for being instrumental to the rebirth of positive activities embarked upon by Local Governments across the State, noting that the execution and commissioning of blocks of classrooms, newly constructed and rehabilitated health centres were made possible as a result of the cooperative and supportive role of the commissioner.

Remarking, the Oloke-Odan of Oke-Odan, Oba Oluwarotimi Fagbenro thanked the State Governor and the Commissioner for their gesture at transforming the infrastructure of the State, pointing out that Gov. Dapo Abiodun led APC Government has brought into reality, the over 15 years dream of the community, of having a new block of classrooms.
