We’ll Make Iseyin Corridor Of Devt. For Other Zones In Oyo, Says Makinde

By Bode Akinbode , Ibadan

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde on Tuesday reiterated his administration’s resolve to develop Iseyin, in Oke-Ogun zone and make it a corridor of development for other zones in the state.

The governor stated this while receiving a crowd, led by the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Abdulgany Adekunle Ologunebi, Ajinese 1, who were on a Thank-You-Visit to him in his Agodi Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan.

The governor who was overwhelmed by the show of appreciation, said his joy was not unconnected with the various developmental projects going on in the state, which he said, was made possible by the commonwealth of the people of the state.

He said: “I’m overwhelmed by this show of appreciation and the reason of being overwhelmed is that, though I am being hailed for all the developmental projects going on in the state, but it is our commonwealth.

“It is not my father’s money but our money and the essence of government is to use our commonwealth for the common good of our people and as an administration, this is what we will continue to do.

“What we are aiming at as an administration is that by the time we will be vacating the seat of power, Oyo State would have been more developed than when we took over.

“Fortunately, for my people in Iseyin, where geography situates Iseyin is a place where the whole Oyo State can be linked together. The vision we have is that anybody can decide to reside in Iseyin and be working in Ibadan.

“So, it is not necessary that we all be choked up in Ibadan. We want to spread out and develop the state as a corridor for the zones in the state. So I want to urge you all that development is still coming so long the government  is doing the needful in terms of infrastructure, development would come naturally from investors.

“Please cooperate with us and to those trying to constitute themselves as clug, I want to implore the Kabiyesi to speak to them. We want nightlife in Iseyin, we want people to come such that whoever wants to go to Ado-Awaye can sleepover in Iseyin.

“Also, once the university campus starts to operate, people will need places to sleep. So please, cooperate with the government and don’t sell your lands.

“Once economy expands, poverty will vanish. So I want you to visualize what is coming. Iseyin is linked to Oyo and once the road is completed, it will only take around 20 mins from Iseyin to Oyo.

“Iseyin is also linked to Ogbomoso and once the road is also completed, the journey will be around 1 hour. By the time all these are done, development will come naturally. By my prediction, in the next 20 years, Iseyin would have been linked totally to Ibadan.

“So, I want you to be prepared for what is coming. As you’ve come to show appreciation, we too as an administration will double up our efforts. Everybody’s corperation is what we need and we promise not to disappoint.”

Speaking on behalf of Aseyin, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart in Iseyin, Sen. Gbenga Babalola, thanked the governor for the various developmental projects embarked upon by his administration in the Oke-Ogun zone, especially, Iseyin.

“On behalf of Kabiyesi, the Aseyin o Iseyin, the people of Iseyin and the people of Oyo State, we thank you for all the good things you’ve been doing for us. We cannot but identify ourselves with you.

“In the last few years, we’ve not had it so good. When you were coming in, we were skeptical because we’ve  heard promises from different governors but when they are elected, they forget about us.

“But you’ve shown that in you runs the spirit of fairness. You’re the first governor to inculcate fairness into administration. You’re  the first governor to identify that there are four regions in Oyo State and we thank you very much for this.

“And I’ve been honoured as a mark of respect by the Kabiyesi that as an appreciation for all these wonderful gestures from your Excellency to the people of Iseyinland, the Aseyin-in-council has decided to confer on you the chieftaincy title of Aare Atunluto of Iseyinland while the first lady will be coronated as the Yeye Aare Atunluto of Iseyinland,” he disclosed.

Earlier in his address, the President of Iseyin Development Union (IDU), Alhaji. Waheed Bayo Raji, also lauded the good gestures of the governor, while using the medium to request for other pressing needs of people of the zone.

“We want to bring to your notice, Sir, like Oliver Twist, our other areas of request, which we know, you can assuage our plights. We shall be very grateful if the road leading to Ikere Gorge Dam can be tarred The dam will be very relevant to the LAUTECH College of Agriculture and Renewable Energy Resources in so many wants. The fisheries and Agriculture industry will be boosted both for industrial and domestic activities.

“The Ikere Gorge Dam, which has been abandoned since the 1980s can serve as a veritable economic hub for the state in particular and the nation in general. The Da also has the capacity to generate electricity and also boost multiplier effects in terms of Agro Allied Businesses.

“Secondly sir, we want to appeal for speedy resource verification for the new programmes in the College of Energy Resources. This will enable the college to admit new students into the 100 level of the new courses.

“We shall also be grateful sir, if electrification can be extended to the new college of Agric site in Iseyin. This will enable administration, lecturing, etc, in this era of information technology.

“Also, the road network within the campus, in terms of culverts, drainages and asphaltic tarting will be very imperative in ensuring that the college is a model for other states. We also want to appeal sir, for the asphaltic tarring of Akinwami-Osoogun road.

“This will boost economic activities and serve as a lasting legacy to the memory of Bishop Ajayi Crowther, a legend in his own right, and an indigene of Osoogun in Iseyin Local Government an also a man of history.

“We know the economic challenges of the state and even the Nation. But Hanging Lake at lyake, Ado-Awaye is a universal tourist centre that should be taken care of. If well hanessed, it can serve as a veritable source of revenue for the state and also a legacy tourist centre not only in Oyo State but the whole federation. It is the only hanging lake in Africa, and the second one is in Colorado, making it the only two handing lakes in the world,” he added.
