The Ogun State Government is ready to develop and empower youths and women in the state through skill acquisition to make them self-reliant and successful entrepreneurs.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, made this known at the closing ceremony of training on skills acquisition for youths in welding and fabrication and women empowerment organized by the National Board for Technology Incubation in collaboration with Hon. Isiaka Ayokunle Ibrahim representing Ifo/ Ewekoro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The training programme was held at the Technology Incubation Centre,Onijan-gan-jan-gan, Abeokuta.
Ashiru noted that the impact of skills acquisition on national development could not be over-emphasised as it would help the young entrepreneurs to improve on their level of productivity and contribute to the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
He said the present administration had embarked on various programmes and policies aimed at promoting Micro-Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state such as the Ogun State Government –Bank of Industry Matching Fund Scheme of N1bn that provides an easy access to industrial loan with single digit of seven percent interest rate.
‘’Approximately N600m has been disbursed to 111 Cooperative Societies comprising 1,046 individual entrepreneurs and eight SMESs in various businesses in order to make government closer to the people,’’.he explained
Ashiru said government would continue to support the centre with other infrastructure while other Technology Incubation Centres at Odogbolu and Owode-Yewa would receive the required attention to improve on their level of productivity.
In his address, Hon. Ibrahim commended the state government for transforming the state into an industrial hub, calling on other stakeholders to join hands to rebuild the state.
