The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Real Admiral Samuel Ilesanmi Alade has said that the Nigerian Navy was set for a total clampdown on activities of pipeline vandals and other criminal elements operating in the Nigerian territorial waters.
Speaking with newsmen in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the FOC said he was in the state to visit the operation base at Igbokoda and the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, lmeri as part of efforts to maintain peace and extend the on-going efforts being made through “Operation Awatse” in lkorodu, Lagos to Ondo State.
According to him, “Operation Awatse” was put together by the command under the directive of the Chief of Naval staff Real Admiral Usman Jibrin to be able to curtail the activities of vandals disclosing that a Naval base may soon be established in Ikorodu.
He noted that a lot of criminals have been arrested by the Naval officers who are working in collaboration with men of the Nigerian army.
Admiral Ilesanmi also attributed some of the successes recorded by his men in the oil rich Igbokoda area to the good working relationship existing between his men and the local residents.
On the activities of militants, he said for now the Nigerian navy is having smooth operation adding that they work also with other sister agencies and all stakeholders
He, however, promised that officers of the command will not relent until they rid the Nigerian territorial waters of criminals.
