Some have always felt there is something about the present Inspector General of Police Suleiman Abba they find difficult to fathom. He does n’t seem to really have the gravitas of an IGP. And some have been asking- was Suleiman Abba brought in for a ‘special task’ particularly in the build-up to the 2015 poll? You don’t need to look any further to get an answer to this question. Just recall how he went before a House of Representatives Committee probing the recent assault by the Police on House Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and some lawmakers and said he does not recognise Tambuwal as House Speaker. His reason: Tambuwal had defected from PDP to APC and as such has lost his office, sort of interpreting the constitution his own way. He also says the matter is before the court and will be subjudice if he speaks on it. Good that IGP Abba is lettered enough to know that it would be subjudice to speak on a matter before the court, yet he has acted to assault that simple provision of the law by withdrawing the Speaker’s orderlies when there is no basis for it. For the life of me, which court has said Speaker Tambuwal has lost his seat and office with his defection and the Police should withdraw his security aides?
