Some persons went to court recently to stop First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan from hosting the African First Ladies’ Summit where new executives of the union would be picked (the summit was eventually held on Friday in Abuja). What will happen to the suit now?
The plaintiffs had claimed the First Lady brought back the summit, initially slated for July, in order to prevent Aisha, wife of President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, from taking over as chairperson of the union. They instituted the case in court and sought to halt the summit.

Mama Patience was a pitiable sight at an event recently in Abuja where lamented about the suit. She wondered why some people would be making such a ‘dangerous’ insinuation. “Why are we not united in this country? Why can’t we work together? I don’t have any problem with the wife of the President-elect.
The decision to bring backwards the summit was not taken by Mrs. Patience alone; it was taken by the executives of the body”. Thank God those who wanted to stop the summit did not succeed. Why would anybody want to stop the summit and stop Dame Jonathan from enjoying the perks of power, from spending a little more money now that President Jonathan is in the twilight of his reign?
