Nigerian top stars won big at the 63rd Grammy Award. Burna Boy broke into the rank of grammy award winners after two consecutive nominations with his album ‘Twice as Tall’.
He is the first Nigerian to win the award after musicians like King Sunny Ade, late afrobeat king Fela Anikulapo Kuti and his sons Femi and Seun had been nominated for the awards at various times.
Superstar Wizkid also won ‘Best Music Video’ for his role in ‘Brown Skin Girl’ at the 63rd Grammy Award.
He won the award alongside Beyonce, who owns the song and featured artists, Saint John and Blue Ivy. The award will also go to Jenn Nkiru who directed the video.
The song was made for Beyonce’s album, Lion King: The Gift which featured other Nigerian artists.
Another Nigerian star, Tiwa Savage, also won an honour at the Grammy for her collaboration with Coldplay.
Burna Boy’s win was announced at the award ceremony which was hosted by TV show host, Trevor Noah.
“Twice As Tall, Burna Boy’s 5th studio album was adjudged one of the best to be recorded by the 29-year-old Nigerian, whose real name is Damini Ogulu.
