Workers Day: Organized Labour Tasks Kogi to Carry Out  Serious Audit of Salary Payment  For The Past Two Years

The organized Labour in Kogi State has tasked the state government  to as matter of urgency  to do serious auditing of salary payment for the
past two years .
The State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Onuh Edoka who
made this call during 2018 may day celebration  in Lokoja, the Kogi State Capital on Tuesday, lamented the the agonies the workers are passing through before get salaries in the state.
Edoka  explained that  the states had shared a total sum of 1.9 trillion naira  which probably excludes the the proceeds from NLNG and bail out funds to off set the accumulated salaries of the workers, stressing that despite this efforts workers could not get their salaries.
The May day celebration which was low key in the history of Kogi State witnessed the low turnout of workers in the state.
This it was gathered was as a result of non payment of salaries to the workers  who are said to passing through excruciating period  as many could no longer pay their bill, house rent, school fees and medical bills.
The  state Chairman of NLC, seized the opportunity to call  on all arms of government  particularly the executive and legislature  to
revisits autonomy of local government  to make truly independent politically, financially and economically.
He  also lamented that the result of the verification exercise  was removal of all grade level 16 officers from office, stressing that the
laying off the workers could be a threat to the fragile security situation in the coutry.
He stated that the Organized labour in the state has totally reject the percentage payment of salaries  for all local government staff and
Teachers .
Edaoka  called on thew federal government to as matter of urgency revisit Ajaokuta Steel complex and earn mark money for the completion, say this would remove youths from streets.
The State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello  who was represented by his Deputy, Elder Simon Achuba  said that the state government is committed  to the welfare of workers in the state. Noting that the present situation in the state was as result of  paucities of funds.
He admonished  the workers to cooperate with the present administration to take the state to the next level.
