Oyo State has called for actions across sectors to make healthy and sustainable diets affordable and accessible to the people.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ojemuyiwa Ojekunle made the call during the annual celebration of World Food Day held at Western Hall, House of Assembly Complex, Secretariat, Ibadan on Thursday.
Ojekunle disclosed that the State government has put in place several innovative programmes such as capacity building, empowerment, rehabilitation of rural roads and creation of access to credit facilities in cash and kind in order to ensure food security, alleviate poverty and create employment in the state
The Commissioner also revealed that the state has not only relied on internal efforts to boost agricultural production in the state, it has also involved various agricultural institutions, investors and friendly countries in the area of funding, capacity building, technology transfer and machineries.
Ojekunle, who further urged farmers to make good use of the opportunities presented by the state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for his interest and tremendous efforts geared towards agricultural development in the state
In his goodwill message, the state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who was represented by his deputy, Rauf Olaniyan promised that his government will train and retrain youths in agric business in order to reduce the unemployment rate in the state.
He urged farmers especially youths to be hardworking as the government has so many developmental programmes in the pipeline for their development.
